Countries around the world have been celebrating motherhood in their own way for centuries, but Mother’s Day has only been an official holiday in the U.S. since 1914. In fact, the woman who fought to make Mother’s Day a holiday did so as a tribute to her own mother, who always had a garden filled with one plant – white carnations.
Flowers have been a popular way to celebrate Mother’s Day in the United States ever since its inception in the early 20th century. The U.S. made Mother’s Day an official holiday in 1914, but countries all around the world also have an official day to celebrate mothers, and many of them choose to celebrate it with the most classic gift of all – flowers.
